Elephant Trunk Nebula
-
Also known as IC 1396, this beautiful cloud of glowing gas is located in the constellation Cepheus.
This project took a while to complete, totalling 5 nights of data collection. Unfortunately, I was forced to scrap nearly all of the data due to clouds (presumably some smoke, especially on the September nights). As a result, I was left with merely 7.5 hours (just over a quarter of the total amount collected). Nevertheless, the image came out really well.
I seized the opportunity to try out Russel Croman’s new StarXTerminator in Pixinsight, and I must say that the results are amazing (a true competitor of Starnet).
Also, the last 2 nights of data acquisition were done using ZWO’s newly released ASIAIR Plus. I must say that it performs wonderfully, and have not yet encountered any issues.
